PSYCHED 2: Come home Lassie on Peacock.

I’ve Finally Watched…is back again with my review of….PSYCHED 2: Come home Lassie on Peacock.

If you are a fan of the Psyched series and the 1st movie, then this is a must watch. Shawn is amazingly hilarious and Burton is a Demi God of laughs. This film is classic Psyched, with the one liners, banter, and laughs.

We open with Lassiter. He is recovering from being shot and having a stroke during surgery. The plot is, Lassie is having dreams and visions about his life and the shooting that almost paralyzed him and doesn’t believe that the man who confessed to shooting him is guilty. But, he calls on Shawn and Gus to solve some weird happenings at his recovery hospital.

Now, if you are a fan, you’ll remember that Lassie was virtually missing from the last film. Apparently, he had a stroke in real life. So when I saw the trailer for this one and him being featured, I Cheered! So, they wrote it into the movie.

All the old crew is back and the laughs are constant. I was somewhat confused that there was no, psychic detective angle and it took a minute for Shawn’s light up clue finds to appear but the movie didn’t disappoint. I wish the show makes a comeback but if I can get these movies every so often, I am satisfied.

My Review of The Kissing Booth

Standard

…a Netflix original.

I finally got around to this one. This movie was all kinds of 80’s & ealry 90’s nostalgic. From the “in love with your best friend’s sibling” to the “outburst at the prom”. Elle and her birthday Twin are besties who make a list of rules to live by when they were six. This list dictates their lives as they navigate life and high school.

But, cute and goofy Elle is crushing on Noah, her bestie’s perfect brother and that’s a no no and a rule breaker. At first, Noah seems indifferent but that changes.

What I loved…I thought the parts played by the actors were well cast, though when I first saw Elle compared to Noah, I was like…she looks twelve to his twenty-three. But the movie sells the roles from the start. Everything rang genuine and the movie is cute, sweet, and you get what you came for.

I have one complaint. I had no idea why the younger Flynn hated the older Flynn so much. The older perfect brother angle kind of died away with all the fights Noah got into. That and the fact that I saw no resolution to the manufactured rivalry, was a bit of a drop off for me because this is the entire basis for this movie’s drama and point of the plot. Again, set aside that the rules were made when six…a time when I had now idea what dating was let alone spelling it. But the unknown hate and quick fast resolution to it left me more curious in the end.

If you haven’t seen The Kissing Booth…watch it on a lazy weekend eve. It’s totes watchable.

Old Ways for the New Generation

Standard

So, one day I was sitting on the couch watching television and had a thought. I missed the days of playing with my sisters and friends as a child. We’d be out all day, 10am until the street lights came on, only going in our houses for drinks (if we couldn’t find a water hose), food (if we couldn’t bum something from a friend’s mom), and bathroom breaks (if you weren’t the squatting in the woods type). Seeing our parents in fleeting moments when we checked in, avoiding their questions about if we knew if Ms. So and So was home for fear we’d have to run an errand or giving one word answer so not to be drawn into a long conversation.

I remember having loads of fun outside. Playing Hop Scotch, Red Light-Green Light, Jaxs (Jacks), Bat and Ball… Coming inside and seeing my mom scrunch up her nose and saying “Jeez, you smell like outside.” I would smell my shirt and give her a confused look because…I was confused. What the hell did “Outside” smell like? Now I know.

Those were the days but as I reflect, I realize that my little ones are missing out. Gone are the days that your children can go out in the neighborhood and have free rein. One can argue that the world has gotten worse or is it that the crime is just on display for all to see. My point, in this careful climate we parents who keep a protective grip on our children will notice that outside play or playtime in general has moved inside.

Yes, my children go outside. They have bikes, scooters, bubbles, and we go to the playground. But if I am being honest, my little ones have all the luxury toys money can buy and those are usually electronic in some way or another. So what I’ve decided to do is teach them the way I played….for the most part. No, my neighborhood isn’t like the one I grew up in. There aren’t hundreds of kids littering the streets and knocking on our door to play like when I was a child but I can share some of the fun I used to have.

I set out to find the toys of old. The games we once loved. Now, beside the television with every electronic you could imagine, I have Jaxs, Pickup Sticks, Marbles, Bat and Ball.. Whatever I can find, I purchased to give the new generation some old school flavor. My children are actually enjoying the games of my youth. Those games require a different kind of skill but they are loving them. Go out…get some Jaxs and teach those techies some tricks.
